Sourced from Org. Synth. "Synthesis of penta-1,2-dien-4-one (acetylallene)". Synthesis of acetylallene (penta-1,2-dien-4-one) via bromination of acetylacetone followed by base-induced dehydrobromination. In the original procedure, the first step was run with heating and the bromo intermediate was purified by distillation. OrgSyn submitters reproduced the 75% yield; checkers obtained 59-65%. Key modifications: reaction temperature held at 0 to rt, and the bromo intermediate was used directly without distillation.
